Hurricane Season Preparedness
June 1 – November 30
RV / Campground Preparedness
Ensure that your RV insurance and registration are current, and keep your RV in good working condition and fully fueled. Prepare an emergency kit that includes medications, important documents, food, water, a flashlight, and other essential items. Monitor weather forecasts regularly and stay alert for NAS Key West and MWR announcements, as Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) levels will determine evacuation requirements. Campground evacuations are typically ordered at TCCOR 3, and campers must be ready to evacuate within one hour of notification; early departure is encouraged to avoid congestion. All exterior items must be removable, with no pop-up tents, freestanding structures, or attached fixtures permitted—only one canopy is allowed. Pets must not be left unattended and must evacuate with their owners. Have an exit strategy in place, know your destination in advance, and be ready to leave when directed. Returning to the campground is not permitted until official approval has been issued. Failure to comply with these procedures may result in the loss of campground privileges.
Marina Preparedness
Ensure that vessel engines are well-maintained and fully fueled, and prepare an emergency kit with medications, important documents, food, water, and other supplies. Identify alternate safe harbor locations or haul-out sites in advance. Evacuations are typically ordered at TCCOR 3, and vessels may be required to vacate both the marina and moorings, as sheltering in place is not permitted. Secure your vessel by doubling all mooring lines, using chafe protection, and removing sails, canvas covers, biminis, dinghies, and all loose items from decks. Disconnect shore ties, secure fuel tanks, and ensure pets evacuate with their owners. Develop an evacuation plan for your family and be prepared to depart promptly when directed, as returning is not allowed until approval has been issued. MWR does not provide hurricane moorings or vessel storage, so patrons must have alternate arrangements in place.
