Juneteenth Celebration 5K Run/3K Walk

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865 the Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – which had become official January 1, 1863.

The artwork used for our flyer is inspired by the official Juneteenth flag. It includes the red, white and blue color scheme of the American flag, a white star to represent Texas as well as the freedom of slaves in all 50 states and finally the curve behind the star represents a new horizon.
