ABOUT THE POSITION
This position is located within Morale, Welfare & Recreation, Naval Air Station, Key West, FL. The purpose of this position is to direct and coordinate the activities of bartenders, assist the Food and Beverage manager with scheduling, ordering and accounting duties. 
 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As the work leader – may give work assignments, trains personnel, monitor attendance and establishes schedule needs. Establishes requirements for bar and cleaning supplies, purchases supplies as needed. Follows receipt and storage controls to prevent pilferage. Monitors stock levels to assure timely replenishment of supplies. Assists the Manager with the monthly inventory and investigates discrepancies. Follows sanitary standards according to existing guidelines and monitors to insure compliance. Determines quantities and components of drinks and cocktails. Assists with planning quarterly calendar with emphasis on seasonal events. May develop specialty drinks, establishes standard recipes and prepares promotional materials. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for the bar. Make recommendations on new ideas and procedures that will improve and enhance the operation of the facility.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of MWR management procedures and the general business practices of recreational programs. Knowledge of MWR facilities, programs and organization components of the naval air station. Must have knowledge of business mathematics and cash handling procedures. Ability to lead the work of others. Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing. Works under the specific direction of the Food and Beverage Manager. Must become familiar with and be able to implement Navy and base instructions, safety requirements and facility policies. Prior bartending and/or food and beverage experience preferred.
 
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS OVER POSITION
Works under the supervision of the Food and Beverage Manager but performs duties independently in accordance with established procedures.
 
COMPLEXITY
Position requires an ability to deal effectively with the military and civilian community. Must be able to read written instructions and follow them, write effectively and have outstanding customer service skills. Incumbent must use good judgment to consider the relative priority of numerous tasks and complete them in order of urgency or importance.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires climbing, bending, catching lines and a great deal of standing. Incumbent will be required to be in good physical condition and at times requires to lift as much as 40 pounds.
 
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Requires frequent light to moderate lifting and carrying objects weighing 5-15 pounds, pushing and pulling objects weighing 10-20 pounds and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier objects, such as kegs of beer, are transported with the use of a hand truck. Work is performed both inside and outside, protected from rain, occasionally exposed to hot outside temperatures. Subject to cuts and bruises.
